At the 2011 IRI, we have a NEW way to run mentor matches. These matches will be fast, fun, and will raise some money for local Indiana charities. Also, as an added bonus, we will get a chance for team mentors to make fools of themselves in front of the IRI crowd. Here is an outline of the event.
- Event: Mentor Mini-Bot Madness
- Time: 12:00 noon on Saturday (right after alliance selection)
- Location: on the FRC LogoMotion playing field
- Who can enter: individual mentors from competing IRI teams
- Entry fee: $40 per mentor
- Maximum number of mentor participants: 32
Here is how Mentor Mini-Bot Madness will work:
- Four (4) mentors will participate in each Madness match.
- This is a single-elimination tournament, with 4 mentors in the final match.
- Each mentor will be riding on a non-motorized, standard drive base made from components provided in the 2010 FRC Kit of Parts. These four drive bases will be AndyMark C-Bases, using six, 8″ diameter wheels. There will be a place on the base for the mentor to sit. Each base will be mostly identical. Drive bases will have bumpers. All four standard drive bases will be provided by the IRI crew.
- Drive bases will be propelled only by the mentors.
- Mentors are not allowed to touch the carpeted floor with anything except their hands.
- Mentors will begin the match with their drive base bumper touching the diamond plate end wall.
- At the beginning of the match, each mentor will propel their drive base, without getting off of the drive base, over to one of the two FAR mini-bot towers.
- Mentors are not allowed to grab, punch, slap, beat upside the head, or purposely touch another mentor during the match. However, bumper to bumper interaction between drive bases is expected.
- Mentors are to carry a mini-bot of their choice with them (BYO mini-bot), as they propel themselves across the playing field.
- Mentors are to place their mini-bot on one of the two FAR mini-bot towers.
- The first mini-bot to trigger the top of the tower wins the match. The second mini-bot to trigger the tower gets second place.
- Mentors winning first and second place will advance to the next round.
- In the final match, the mentor winning first place will be crowned the winner of Mentor Mini-Bot Madness! If over 24 mentors sign up for this tournament, $200 will be awarded to the winning mentor’s team.
